How to interview your elders

Prepare

Explain why you are recording, ask permission, and record audio on your phone.

Good questions

• Where were your parents and grandparents born?
• What were their clan names and why?
• Which places did the family move between, and why?
• What traditions did your family keep for births, marriages and funerals?

Afterwards

Upload the recording to the Archives, link it to the people mentioned, and mark facts as “family tradition” until documents confirm them.
